Daily snapshot :: indoor fun

We have been spending so much time outside lately that I thought it would be a fun change of pace to spend some time indoors together.  I love our home, inside and out.

Daily snapshot :: excited about seeds

I think this year I am the most excited I have ever been for it to be spring.  I am thoroughly enjoying expanding our little vegetable garden, and I decided that a seed box would be a very fun and practical thing to have.  So last night I added some vellum and stickers to a little box that I dug out of the closet.  Ryken and I had fun shopping for seeds this morning, and we ended up with a nice full box.  He was having so much fun driving, that I was quite surprised when he stopped to check out the seeds too.  As I was grabbing some Watermelon seeds and tossing them in the cart, I saw that Ryken had picked up a packet of Radish seeds.   Radish was not on my list, but when I asked him if he wanted to get them and plant them, he nodded and tossed the packet into the cart with the rest of our choices.  Radishes it is.  Looking forward to a fun family weekend of planting!

Daily snapshot :: missing Mom Mom & Pop Pop

It has been less than three weeks since Mom Mom and Pop Pop left for their trip, but they are already missed.  So today we had fun with a few activities that we normally do with them.  We perused a vegetable gardening book, and Mama made a calendar of when to plant different veggies (I think Mom Mom would be proud) and we played "Pop Pop's desk".  Ryken normally sits on Pop Pop's lap at his big desk and searches the drawers and tests the pens.  I tried it once at Pop Pop's desk and it didn't go over too well (after all, Mama can be good at lots of things, but will always be very poor at trying to fill Pop Pop's role).  Today, however, we had lots of fun at the kitchen table.  Hoping Mom Mom and Pop Pop are having lots of fun!

Daily snapshot :: winding down

Mama_time

After a day of: errand running, cooking, comforting, digging, shoveling, wheel barrowing, leveling, watering...
Mama gets to wind down: showering, reading, knitting, sipping...

Daily snapshot :: yesterday

We did quite a lot yesterday, and happily almost all of it was outside.  Things I loved:

* hands at work * sunshine and soft grey * spring in the air *

Daily snapshot :: lil driver

Ryken LOVES "driving" so we use it as a reward for when he's been good. I'm actually looking forward to his teenage years when he can drive for real. Yes, you probably think I'm crazy, but I think all kids all ages test boundaries, and that's a good thing. And thankfully I know God is with me & will help me (Psalm 16:7-8) to set & keep the right ones for the little man.

Ryken keeps growing by leaps and bounds, which means this Mama needs to get knitting for the little man. A light spring/summer sweater sounds just about right. I'm looking forward to watching it take shape, and I'm loving the familiarity and joy of knitting for my sweet boy.

Daily snapshot :: catching up

This week has a been a bit of a tough one (hence I haven't posted this week).  Ryken is on his third round of antibiotics for ear infections and I came down with a sinus infection.  We are both on the mend, but are both tired of getting one illness after another.  Though I haven't posted, I have been taking and saving some pictures, so here they are...

:: Ryken is now easily able to climb onto what has become "his" chair and loves playing on the kitchen counter.  He can also move the chair to get where he wants to go, but this seems to be his favorite spot.

:: Because this is now one of his favorite spots, I have been trying to leave little "surprises" there for him to find in the mornings. This one was some coloring sheets I printed out from one of his favorite cartoons, "Super Why" on PBS.

:: Here he is coloring one of his new washable coloring books we picked up at Costco. Such an awesome idea! Toys have come a long way since Matt and I were kids. Matt and I had fun testing just how washable the markers and crayons were before we set Ryken loose.

:: Another activity Ryken enjoys on the kitchen counter is playing with the laptop Uncle Brian gave us (thanks Bri!). It has really become Ryken's computer and he gets quite annoyed at Mama or Dada if we try to use it while he's "working".

:: After a full morning of work Ryken and I take a break to watch some cartoons. Ryken grabbed Matt's beanie, handed it to me, and clearly demonstrated that he waned to wear it.

:: Ryken is starting to really love the horse (or "neigh neigh" as he calls it) that Mom Mom and Pop Pop gave him for his first birthday.

:: Mama gets a cup of tea and little beading done for a sewing project while Ryken is busy riding his horse.

:: When Vega isn't begging to be let outside, he puts himself right in the middle of the action, even if that means stealing one of Ryken's toys for a pillow.

Hopefully I'll be back to posting snapshots daily this week. We have some warm weather coming that I am thrilled about, and I am really looking forward to spending some time outside (notice every snapshot was an inside activity).

Daily snapshot :: I just don't get it

For one reason or another there always seems to be way more dishes on the weekends than during the week. Perhaps it's because I slack off a bit to spend time with my boys.
